    Deployment Manager reads a service’s deployment.yaml at the commit its image was built from; nothing in the image states that commit today.

    git rev-parse HEAD rather than github.sha: this job checks out inputs.branch, a branch NAME, so the commit actually built is whatever that branch pointed at when the checkout ran.
